My Bestfriend

When I think of someone very close to me the first person that pops in my head is my girlfriend, who is also my best friend. As I think of the past I realize that there have been many investments made into this relationship between me and her. We have invested our time, effort, thought, and emotions into this relationship. Trust, acceptance, and closeness are key components in a healthy friendship. Trust is built gradually over time and it can be lost even faster. I’ve built trust in my relationship by telling the truth and communicating every little detail to my partner. Acceptance just comes naturally with a close friend. You shouldn’t have to hide anything from your friend. Lastly, closeness can be achieved through dialogue or by doing activities with one another. Intimacy is a big thing in closeness and it really makes the relationship. I would definitely say that my relationship is consistent with the dynamics described in this chapter.

  1. Hey Petey!
I really appreciated you post this week about your girlfriend. After reading your response and thinking to myself, I can honestly say that my boyfriend is truly my best friend as well. He’s the one I spend the most time with, I can tell him anything that is on my mind, and he has always been there for me through the good and bad times. I liked how you mentioned acceptance is something that comes naturally with a close friend and I have realized that I have accepted my boyfriend for all that he is. It’s his humor, big heart, and sometimes stubborn personality that make him unique, and I love him for being his own individual.

  2. Hi Petey,
I'm happy to hear that you and your girlfriend are also best friends. Its important when being in an intimate relationship to be friends as well. Other wise the relationship wouldn't work. The textbook mentions the different stages of friendship and having a best friend or best friends is something rare. Usually we don't go past the point of Nascent Friendship. You and your girlfriend are obviously at the stabilized friendship stage and not to mention you guys seem to share a lot of the different dynamics that Julia Woods seems to describe in this chapter. Which is all very important when it comes to being in a relationship.
